I have looked after my father for nearly 3 years on my own now with minimal support from other family members. I used to work full time until my own health deteriorated and I went to part time and now reduced further to 2 days per week at the moment. The State decrees that I earn too much in those 2 days to warrant a Carers Allowance payment. I often go to work tired and fed up but need that money and some much needed space and independence. If the State had to look after and care for my father it would cost them thousands but it is alright for me to provide unpaid care 24/7. I know its a waste of time feeling the enormous unfairness of this but feels good to voice it.
