I am a carer for a 30 year old lady with mental health issues, ie panic disorder depression, anxiety disorder, self harm,. She also has physical issue due to being badly burnt in a fire last year. had substance abuse issues too, though thats under some control at present.
The main thrust of my point of view regarding the plight of carers, in particular elderly carers is the frustration of getting the DWP to appreciate that the job does not amount to 35 hours a week per ce but is in fact a 24/7 job that encroaches on everything that you do with your own life. The DWP do not have knowledge or expertise at the point of application of this benefit but simply base it on criteria they deem suitable for the RULES! Rules that have been laid down by people that have no concept of the trials ,anxiety, stress etc that never goes away.....night or day. Then to add insult to injury they assert that 55 pounds a week is all its worth to the state. Furthermore they assume we are all infallible, never get ill, do not need a holiday , do not have needs, pressures from family, or whatever.
